What is the St Andrews Environmental Humanities Network?

The St Andrews Environmental Humanities Network brings together researchers, students, and practitioners whose work engages with ecocultural issues. This can range from the study of ancient landscape management to investigations of contemporary sustainable behaviours and practices. The Network’s aim is to foster interdisciplinary research and teaching as well as to serve as a platform to engage with the world beyond academia.

The Network joins a number of centres across the University which deal with environmental concerns, namely the Centre for Ancient Environmental Studies, the Centre for Critical Sustainabilities and the Centre for Energy Ethics.

What are the Environmental Humanities?

The Environmental Humanities (EH) is an interdisciplinary field of study that explores the relationships between nature and culture. It combines traditional Arts and Humanities approaches with questions and methodologies from the social and natural sciences to examine the critical intersection of social and environmental issues.

The Environmental Humanities Network webpages advertise a range of events taking place across the University and beyond, from seminars and conferences to movie launches, book clubs and art-inspired workshops.
