Do 5 Things to Win the Inter-Hall Energy Competition

The University of St Andrews Environment team is encouraging all undergraduate hall residents to join in the Inter-Hall Energy Competition 2026, running from Friday 6 February until Friday 13 March (between Green Week and Sustainability Week), with an Awards Show announcing the winner on Friday 20 March.
The halls will be competing to save the most energy compared to their own electricity usage this time last year. Be in for a chance to win prize money and food!
How can you help? Reduce your carbon thumb-print by taking the Do 5 Things pledge:
Do 5 Things:
- Switch off your bedroom and kitchen devices at the plug when you’re not using them.
- Take short showers (5 mins or less).
- Turn down radiators to minimum during the day, and when you’re out.
- Switch off lights during the day, and when leaving a room.
- Only boil the amount of water you need in the kettle.
The Environment team will release a leaderboard online each week of the competition, showing which hall is saving the most. Check this out on Instagram @UStASustainable or here on the blog.
The winning hall will be revealed at the Halls Energy Awards show on Friday 20 March, 2pm. Join us in the Student Association to enjoy refreshments and rewards!
Contact your hall’s Environment Rep or the Environment Team ([email protected]) with any questions about the competition.
