It is with great delight that we can announce Walter Bower House bike shed is open for use at the University’s Eden Campus, in Guardbridge.

Please familiarize yourself with the induction video which will allow you to safely use the rack storage system.

There are two entrances into the bike shed, the one nearest the main road is flat to wheel your bike in, the other nearest WBH comes down a set of stairs. Ensure the doors are closed behind you, please also lock your bike to the storage racking.

Access will only be via your staff/student University swipe card to the bike shed, access is available 24/7.

If you have any questions about using the bike shed, please contact the Walter Bower House reception at, [email protected]

With the opening of the bike shared at Eden Campus this week, the University also has four electric bikes available for staff use.

The Go E-Bike Scheme in St Andrews came about as a way to encourage University staff to drive less and cycle more. For all staff the electric bikes are free for use up to 24hrs. If you are a member of staff, what are you waiting for?!

The University’s Sustainability Services Manager, Alexander Clark said,

“I think it’s fantastic that the bike shed is now open, just in time for staff beginning to commute to Eden Campus and the Energy Centre and the electric bikes are a great opportunity for staff to use a sustainable mode of transport when travelling between St Andrews and Guardbridge”.

Transition St Andrews will offer free lunchtime rides to those interested. Transition St Andrews Project Manager, Alistair Macleod, who installed the four electric bikes into the bike shelter, said that E-bikes,

“are a quick and fun way to get into town or home, and that the carbon savings will be a positive bonus. Moving around on an E-bike is a great experience and I invite everyone to try it!”.

To use an E-bike, you will need to book an induction session. Look out for upcoming induction sessions on the Transition E-bike page.

Other Eco Movers events at Walter Bower House will include a monthly walk, led rides and a ‘Bike to Work Breakfast’. All upcoming event details are on the Transition website.
