Restoring the St Andrews Coastal Habitat Network

The Principal took a stroll along the coastal path last Friday to visit the University’s Highland cows and learn more about our nature restoration project. This initiative has been led by University Estates in collaboration with the funding organization, NatureScot, and a number of local partners.
The 15 month programme restored habitat at 27 sites along 16km of coastline around St Andrews, from Guardbridge to Kingsbarns, improving the quality and connectivity of habitat in the area. The project established wildlife stepping stones in greenspaces and created nature networks between villages. Improved habitats will support pollinators, amphibians, small mammals, birds, and overall biodiversity.
Our University Estates team is dedicated to doing our part in ensuring biodiversity is enhanced in our corner of Fife. As this project comes to an end, the University will continue working to improve biodiversity in and around our land.
A heartfelt thank you to Professor Dame Sally Mapstone for joining us to learn about and celebrate this important work!
