Climate Café focuses on Fairtrade
On Tuesday, Transition University of St Andrews and the Environment team facilitated the monthly Climate Café in Zest Café, St Andrews, based on the theme of Fairtrade, in recognition of Fairtrade Fortnight.
Local business owners, high school and University students, staff, community and Fair Trade Town Group members came together to discuss sustainable and ethical supply chains.
Fairtrade is an international movement which aims to improve living, working, and trading conditions for growers across the world. The process strives to ensure fair prices, sustainable farming practices, long-term relationships for community security, and skills sharing for business development.
Particularly, we discussed how climate change is impacting farmers’ production and livelihoods worldwide, and our responsibility to help where we can, such as through purchasing conscientiously.
All University and Students’ Association cafés use a Fairtrade coffee blend from South America. You can also purchase a variety of Fairtrade goods from shops across St Andrews.
Hosted monthly in Zest Café, the Climate Cafe is open to all and is a safe space to speak about environmental concerns, sometimes with a theme or topic in mind (such as Fairtrade) but often as an open discussion. Everyone is welcome. Come along to the next on Tuesday 28 October at 18:00!
